I studied charcoal and graphite drawing under Bill Dowdy at Blue Mountain College, watercolor with Jennifer Redstreake Geary and Kay Foote, and oil with George McElligott and Christopher Groves.

My Mediums

My Inspirations

My Background

I'm relatively new to painting with colors because of my slight colorblindness. Drawing most of my life gave me confidence with shades and values, but a few years with watercolor, oil, and acrylic has turned me in a new direction. I've learned that I'm free to choose the colors that move me in the moment.

The more I paint, the more I see things differently, which changes the way I paint. That cycle of discovery and creation keeps me going. However, that's not enough; I need to see and hear an audience's reaction.

Kevin Gillentine, a New Orleans artist and my best friend for 35+ years, makes me feel like I am an artist too.

Matt Estrada, a talented artist and the kindest gentleman, helped me believe I can find joy in life as an artist.

About Noel Clements

Noel Clements is a visual artist specializing in oil and watercolor painting. Born in Mississippi and settling in Middle Tennessee in 1997, he creates expressive works that explore the shared landscape of human feelings through color, shape, and gesture.

Noel finds oil painting the most powerful medium for conveying moods and emotions. Inspired by both Traditional and Modern Impressionism, he seeks to develop his own visual language that reflects universal emotions such as solitude and connection. He views art as a form of expression that transcends words, revealing experiences that bind us together.

Although he is primarily self-taught, Noel has received some formal art training at college and through workshops in Tullahoma, Shelbyville, Nashville, Chattanooga, and Edinburgh, Scotland.  Noel’s artistic journey began in childhood when his mother introduced him to the basics of drawing and watercolor. Over time, he studied with mentors including Bill Dowdy, Jennifer Redstreake Geary, Kay Foote, George McElligott, and Christopher Groves. A mild form of color blindness adds a unique dimension to his work, giving him fresh perspectives on color relationships.

His paintings exhibited at venues across Tennessee and Mississippi, including the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center, South Jackson Performing Arts Center, the Tomato Art Fest in Nashville, and the Art League of Cheatham County in Ashland City. He is a member of Tullahoma Fine Arts Center, South Jackson Performing Arts Center, Copper Daisy Art Collective, and Bedford County Art Collective.

He received notable recognition at The Celtic Cup (“Best in Show” 2022), The Tomato Art Fest (Honorable Mention 2024), and Art League of Cheatham County, 6th Annual, Art in Bloom (“People’s Choice Award” 2025).

Today, Noel continues to paint in his Tullahoma studio, where he shares his creative journey through workshops, exhibitions, and his website. Typically, his work connects with local collectors and online buyers. His goal is to create work that resonates deeply with viewers, sparking reflection and emotional connection.
